How Himedi Vets Clinics in Korea — Checkup Centers: Hanshin Medipia

We first contacted Hanshin Medipia on August 16, 2023. We reached out by phone, and Ryan from Hanshin followed up with a brochure outlining their packages. At the time, the Basic package was priced at $550 — significantly higher than comparable packages for local Korean patients — so we chose not to move forward. Transparent and fair pricing is non-negotiable.

In early 2025, however, our team began to feel that independent health screening centers were falling short on real on-site customer experience compared to university hospital–affiliated programs. Most primarily serve Korean corporate clients, and dedicated international support is often missing. That’s when we remembered something different about Hanshin: even back in 2023, Ryan had been leading a full-time international service team.

When we revisited the center in June 2025, the overall value of the packages had improved significantly. Despite the strong value, we were especially impressed that a 1:1 interpreter escort was included starting from the Expanded package and above. Hanshin proposed guiding Himedi patients through their Premium Zone — and we decided to move forward with a partnership built around long-term scalability.

Second meeting with Ryan in September 2025 — just four months into the partnership, over 100 Himedi customers were visiting each month. Ryan is pictured on the right.

Medical Quality & Safety

About 80% of Himedi’s American customers use health checkups for highly practical purposes. They want an annual physical while also receiving imaging files that can be easily shared with their physicians in the United States. The remaining 20% visit Korea as part of a wellness-focused trip and value the premium experience itself.

So how did Himedi define its criteria when searching for partners that deliver strong value?

  • Reliability

We focused on specialized screening centers whose primary business is health checkups. These centers invest more resources into diagnostic accuracy and standardized workflows.

  • Value

Large-scale centers offer operational efficiency, allowing patients to complete a wide range of exams within a reasonable budget and timeframe. High-cost equipment such as MRI and PET/CT can also be accessed at more affordable prices.

Checkup programs affiliated with major hospitals such as Seoul National University Hospital or Asan Medical Center were less popular among customers with practical needs. They tend to prioritize practical value over institutional brand prestige. Independent screening centers often deliver significantly stronger value compared to university hospital programs — which is why we focused our partner search within this category.

We personally experience our partners’ services firsthand.

Customer Experience

We evaluated large independent screening centers using Himedi’s four core customer experience standards. Compared to its peer group, Hanshin Medipia stands out for its English communication and clearly defined ownership of international patients.

K** H**** Hanshin Medipia
Price Transparency Yes Yes Yes
Direct English Communication Basic Basic 1:1 escort (Expanded Package and above)
Privacy by Design Limited (but efficient) Limited (but efficient) Limited (but efficient)
Clear Ownership of International Patients No dedicated team per branch No dedicated team per branch On-site international service team

Many first-time visitors choose checkup centers based on value, but sometimes feel overwhelmed during the process. Having a dedicated international service team means there is someone who can step in immediately when discomfort or confusion arises — and that makes a meaningful difference in the overall experience.

For Himedi, the decision came down to structure — Hanshin Medipia was the only large independent screening center where strong operational value and clear on-site ownership of international patients existed within the same system.

On-the-Ground View

Before the pandemic, the rise of international patients pushed many checkup centers to strengthen foreign patient services. During COVID, however, progress stalled, and many centers reduced or eliminated their dedicated teams.

Hanshin Medipia maintained its international service team throughout that period. After partnering with Himedi, they moved quickly to strengthen the organization through active hiring. As Korean health checkups continue gaining global attention, more centers are reorganizing their international operations — but Hanshin Medipia is currently one step ahead.
